Learn to fence Epee

Epee is the fencing weapon that is directly descended from the duelling rapier. Come and learn the ins-and-outs of this tactical and occasionally fast-paced weapon. This course is intended as an introduction for those who have never held an Epee, but would like to learn about the different challenges that it offers, and for those who have dabbled in the past and would like a refresher. Please note that this course is not suitable for absolute beginners, who should complete one of our beginners foil courses first.

How Epee differs from Foil

There are fewer rules in Epee, including no priority rule (whoever hits first receives the point, and if you both hit at the same time, you both score) and no off-target (the whole body is available for scoring).

What the course will cover

  • Introduction to the weapon
  • Hitting the different parts of target
  • How parries differ
  • Timing
  • Stop-hits and counter-time
