Tuesday, 25 Aug 2020 Fencing Preparation

Tue, 25 Aug 2020
20:00 - 22:00

This is a soft-launch first night return to fencing. We'd like volunteers who are able to help us during club sessions over the next few months to come along to help iron out some of our procedures and learn what needs to be done.

Please register for a ticket below to help us check out the track/trace system. Everyone who will be entering the school site must have a ticket, even if you are not going to be taking part in the session. For regular sessions, we will have to turn away anyone who has not booked a place.

Tickets are available from 10:00am on the day of the session, and will be on a first-come first-served basis.

Before booking, please read the club COVID instructions on the main website: https://oxfordfencingclub.co.uk/2020/08/19/club-session-information/ and ensure that you're familiar with the current risk assessment https://oxfordfencingclub.co.uk/2020/08/17/covid-risk-assessment/

The information that you provide when you book is critical to ensuring that we all remain safe, so please ensure that it's accurate and honest.

Note that the risk assessment and instructions state that the Franklin Road gate will be open on a timer. The school have denied this request at this time, so you'll need to use the gate code as before.

Plan

To give you an idea of what we need to do on Tuesday evening, here is some form of plan:

Things to do:

1: Number all individual jackets, masks, gloves, plastrons, chest protectors, weapons.
2: Record serial number against what each item is (?)
3: Check that club weapons and wires are working.
4: Check that the batteries for the electric boxes have some charge in them.
4: Plan layout of hall for how we're going to set up pistes, and viewing area.
5: Check what the signage around the school looks like - are we happy with it?
6: Check what the hand-washing/hygiene facilities are like in the various areas of the building.

Training:

1: Role of box operator
2: Role of door monitor
3: Role of kit helper
4: How we are going to manage movement around the hall
5: How to clean weapons/body-wires and other kit

Discussion:

I also want to hear from all of you what other things I might have missed in this planning, and whether there are any things that we need to clarify or amplify. I am conscious that there are a lot of words in the various instruction documents, and would welcome any suggestions or edits to make them easier to understand or clearer (especially if any of you are skilled in graphic design/UX).

Fencing:

If there are a handful of fencers, I'd like to try the various protocols for actually having a fence, so please do bring kit. Be mindful that we shouldn't be using the changing rooms, so you'll need to come in your kit or be able to get changed next to your bag.
